The Wall Street Journal and the Rand Corporation report that tort reform could result in a 22.5% savings in overall healthcare costs throughout the country.  Let’s look at how pending Senate Bill 3590 addresses tort reform.  In it's model, government will encourage states to develop a test alternative to the current civil litigation system as a way to improve patient safety, reduce medical errors and increase the prompt and fair resolution of disputes.  In other words ladies and gentlemen, let’s protect the trial lawyers and throw tort reform out the window.  We don’t need an experiment, we need REAL legislation that will bring healthcare costs in line and tort reform is right where we need to start.
